Foster-Miller developed a novel hot-melt adhesive packaging system for a commercial customer in which the packaging was an integral part of the product. Taking this approach, we offered the client considerable savings in transportation costs, reduced melt-pot contamination, and fewer storage problems with a zero scrap, zero degradation process.
The engineering challenge was to develop a method in which the sticky, hot adhesive could be added to an adhesive-compatible dry packaging film without melting the film in the process. Foster-Miller performed the thermal analyses of candidate processes, then completed the design and built and installed the process line.
In-house expertise applied in this project included:
-
Thermal analytical capabilities.
-
Knowledge of polymers, specifically adhesives and films.
-
Custom equipment design and build.
