Foster-Miller is developing equipment for the U.S. Army's demilitarization program for the destruction of chemical agents and munitions based on our unique skills for modular systems operating in hazardous environments. In addition to the solids feed system, Foster-Miller provided to Burns and Row a custom designed agent feed system for destruction in the PWC. The system is fed from four reservoirs through self-sealing quick disconnects. A positive displacement, electromagnetically driven diaphragm pump meters the flow into a negative pressure produced by a steam eductor and then into the PWC. Stainless steel was selected for all wetted components to resist the aggressive action of the 10 percent hypochlorite solution that is fed in addition to HD, GB and VX agents. The system is skid mounted and can be purged between different feed campaigns. It is designed to be operated by personnel in protective clothing and can be operated in either manual or automatic mode. Foster-Miller also provided O&M manuals, training curricula, operator training, field engineering support and spare parts.
