Nabisco needed a non-contact cutting tool to cut continuously extruded baked goods. In this case, their low-fat Fig Newtons® were causing blade fouling and excessive scrap, and an entire shift was needed to clean the cutting equipment each day. Foster-Miller developed a non-contact food processing cutting machine that resulted in near-zero scrap and paid for itself within three months. Based upon this food processing technology, several other machines were built and are now used to cut other types of food products. Foster-Miller designed, built and integrated this equipment with the band oven and packaging lines.
